In a forest village, a mole puts all its effort into growing a giant carrot, while a stag beetle spends its days as a counselor, listening to the worries of other animals. One day, the mole bursts into tears after discovering that the harvested carrots are too small to sell. Meanwhile, the stag beetle, struck by stones thrown by dissatisfied animals, gazes up at the night sky with a broken jaw and a weary heart. Though they lead entirely different lives and have never met, these two characters
share the same sadness in this very moment. With the motif of “coincidence,” the author delicately unfolds the story of how they come to cross paths, offering readers a quiet sense of empathy—of discovering a shared feeling within entirely separate lives.
