The picture book Winter & Star tenderly portrays the meeting between
Winter, a personified figure, and a wounded boy named Byeol (meaning
“star”), exploring themes of loss, healing, and new beginnings. As the
boy gradually opens his heart by taking Winter’s hand, the story reveals
the warmth of togetherness and the hope of rebirth in the cold season.
Rather than viewing winter as a harsh time in life, the book reimagines it as a season of preparation for new life—symbolized by the birth of a sibling named Winter—suggesting that even within cold and darkness lies hidden warmth, energy, and the light within us all.
