<여름,> 그림책은 견디기 힘든 시간을 ‘여름의 더위’에 비유하며, 그 힘듦을 바라보는 시선을 전환합니다. 여름은 덥고, 지치고, 뜨겁고, 때로는 힘겹습니다. 하지만 여름이 더운 것은 잠시 멈추라는 신호이고, 뜨거운 것은 생각을 비우라는 초대이며, 나무가 무성한 것은 잠시 들어와 쉬어가라는 뜻이었습니다. 그래서 여름의 힘듦은 여름만이 줄 수 있는 특별한 추억과 기억으로 이어지고, 결국엔 달콤한 선물처럼 우리에게 다가옵니다. 이 책은 2021년 BIB(브라티슬라바 일러스트 비엔날레) 한국 후보작으로 선정되었으며, 같은 해 ‘화이트 레이븐스(White Ravens)’에도 이름을 올렸습니다.
This picture book compares enduring hard times to the heat of summer, gently shifting our perspective on what it means to struggle. Summer is hot, exhausting, and overwhelming at times. But perhaps the heat is a sign to slow down, the swelter an invitation to empty our thoughts, and the thick shade of summer trees a quiet message to come in and rest for a while.
In this way, the hardship of summer becomes something else— a season full of memories only summer can offer, a warmth that, in the end, leaves behind a quiet sweetness.
This book was selected as the Korean nominee for the 2021 BIB (Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava) and was also included in the 2021 White Ravens list.
